Schiller DuCanto & Fleck is pleased to announce that Partner Brendan Hammer shared insights on domestic economic abuse as part of the 2021 DePaul/Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center virtual symposium hosted on October 7 – 8 from 12:00 – 5 p.m. The symposium programming, sponsored by Our Family Wizard, is approved for 8.5 general CLE credits.
The two-day CLE is centered around the important issue of domestic violence and how representation for survivors has significantly changed as a result of COVID-19. There are many forms of domestic abuse including physical, emotional, and financial and strong advocacy in domestic relations cases is a necessity now more than ever. Judges and key speakers focus their discussion on the cutting-edge trends in domestic violence cases including: coercive control and child custody, domestic economic abuse, intimate partner violence and the role social science plays in why family courts sometimes dismiss women’s testimony, the overlap of traumatic brain injuries/concussions and domestic violence, orders of protection in different countries, parenting time in domestic violence cases, and the basics on representing the accuser v. the accused.
