Kara is an Associate at Schiller DuCanto & Fleck and has worked on both pre-decree and post-decree cases involving various family law issues, including but not limited to: initial determination and modification of maintenance and child support, allocation of property, including classification and valuation of marital and non-marital property, allocation of parental responsibilities, and attorneys’ fees. She has significant experience in drafting settlement agreements and negotiations surrounding same, as well as litigation where settlement is not possible, including pursuing all necessary forms of discovery and assisting with contested hearings and trial.
Kara has a strong attention to detail, efficient time management skills and a hard work ethic, skills which she has honed during law school and through the present. Her previous experience at Deloitte as a Consultant has also helped her gain valuable technical knowledge of business tax and the ability to work simultaneously and successfully in multiple different teams on various clients. The combination of these skills and attributes have proven instrumental to Kara’s career as a family law attorney thus far.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University in Summer 2011, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree as a double-major in English and French. As an undergraduate student, Kara was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She also played on the Women's Club Volleyball Team and participated in an 8-week study abroad program in Dijon, France.

Kara next attended DePaul University College of Law from Fall 2011 – Spring 2014. While at DePaul, Kara earned multiple CALI awards for earning the highest grade in the class for the following courses: Contracts, Legal Writing I and II, Marital Dissolution Process, Legal Drafting: Matrimonial Law, and Corporate Tax. Kara was also a Member of the DePaul Law Review. Her article, "A Remedy Beyond Reach: The Stringent Standard in Illinois for Exclusive Possession of the Marital Home During Divorce Proceedings," was selected for publication in the DePaul Law Review, Spring 2014, Issue 3. During law school, Kara held positions as a law clerk at Rinella & Rinella, Ltd. and a judicial externship with The Honorable Veronica Mathein (Ret.) in the Cook County Domestic Relations Division. Kara graduated from DePaul College of Law with her juris doctorate in Spring 2014, receiving Summa Cum Laude and Order of the Coif honors.
From August 2014 through January 2016, Kara worked at Deloitte Tax LLP as a Consultant in its Chicago Multistate Tax Practice. During her time at Deloitte, Kara provided state tax compliance services with a focus on flow-through and corporate entities. She also assisted on consulting projects involving research and analysis of state tax law to identify strategic tax positions and significant refund opportunities for prospective and preceding return years. Kara also assisted the Mergers and Acquisitions Team by conducting research and analysis of state tax consequences of proposed entity transactions. In her spare time while at Deloitte, Kara participated in the firm’s sponsored Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. After 1.5 years with Deloitte, Kara ultimately decided to return to the practice of family law. She therefore returned to Rinella & Rinella, Ltd. in January 2016, where she worked as an Associate until March 2018.
